Dean Amon speaks at Convocation 2013

Graduates, we warmly congratulate you – our extraordinary and brilliant Engineering graduates.

We take pride in your tremendous accomplishments, talent, ambition and ability. On November 12, we happily gather with your peers, friends and family  to celebrate this milestone in your life.

It is due to their encouragement, as well as your commitment, perseverance and dedication, that this fall, 19 of you receive undergraduate degrees (two of those with PEY), while 377 earn graduate degrees (152 receiving their MEng, 151 obtaining their MASc, 18 receiving their MHSc and 56 earning their PhD).

I join you in thanking your friends and loved ones for their unwavering support and belief throughout your remarkable journey.

As U of T engineers, you bring with you a tradition of excellence as you enter a world that needs engineers now more than ever. You will be called upon to imagine solutions to global problems, ignite innovation and serve as leaders in both your profession and the community. Armed with your ideas, knowledge, energy and expertise, you will be ready to answer the call.

Find the confidence that will allow you to take risks, hone leading-edge thinking and conduct innovative research. Then, look forward to the profound impact you will have as you stand apart in your field.

You will create and seize opportunities. You will change the world.

On behalf of the U of T Engineering faculty and staff, I congratulate you on your success, hope you will remain connected to us – and wish you a bright future as you step out of Convocation Hall and into boundless opportunity.
