Forty-five researchers from U of T Engineering have collectively received more than $4.4 million in research funding and scholarships from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC).

The funding is being distributed through Discovery Grants, which were announced by NSERC in October. In total, nearly 4,300 award recipients from across Canada received more than $558 million in support.

“Innovative engineering solutions have never been more important for meeting the many complex, global challenges we face,” said Professor Ramin Farnood (ChemE), Vice-Dean, Research at U of T Engineering. “This significant investment will accelerate our leading-edge research in fields ranging from advanced manufacturing to robotics, sustainability and human health.”

Discovery Grants are based on recommendations from peer review, and provide core funding and for researchers to pursue their most promising ideas. Across the entire University of Toronto, 161 researchers will share nearly $30 million in Discovery Grant funding.
