Canada’s fastest and most powerful supercomputer, located at the University of Toronto and built by IBM, has been ranked 16th on the top 500 list of the most powerful commercially available computer systems in the world. The top 500 list was announced today at the annual International Supercomputing Conference in Hamburg, Germany. Read more at News @ the University of Toronto.
Three Engineering professors are involved in this prestigious consortium: David Zingg, Director of UTIAS, Chris Yip (IBBME/CHEM), and Clinton Groth (UTIAS) will enhance research being conducted in aerospace engineering, chemical physics, high-energy physics, astrophysics, medical imaging, computational biology, and climate change prediction, among other areas.
SciNet will support the efforts of Professor Zingg in the aerodynamic optimization of advanced aircraft concepts with reduced environmental impact. Professor Groth’s research will be enhanced for his work with numerical combustion modeling for advanced, high-efficiency, low-emissions, gas-turbine engine technology. Professor Yip’s molecular dynamics simulations of protein and molecular self-assembly, including peptide-membrane interactions and nanostructure formation.
