Professor Susan Andrews (CivE) has received the 2011 George Warren Fuller Award from the Ontario Water Works Association (OWWA), a section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA). The Fuller Award is presented annually to one member of each AWWA section in recognition of distinguished service to the water supply field. Susan Andrews has held a number of leadership positions within the AWWA and OWWA, as well as the water industry in general. She serves on the Ontario Ministry of the Environment’s Drinking Water Advisory Council, and was previously appointed by the Ministry to the Board of Trustees for the Walkerton Clean Water Centre. She has served as Section Chair of OWWA and is a Program Leader in the Canadian Water Network. Professor Andrews’ research focuses on disinfection and disinfection by-product formation from the chlorination and UV-based technologies that are used to treat drinking water. Her work has contributed to many AWWA Research Foundation reports and has been published in the field’s most respected journals. “I am delighted that Professor Susan Andrews has been recognized for her leadership and extraordinary contributions to water works policy and practice” said Cristina Amon, Dean, Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering. “Congratulations to her and to the Department of Civil Engineering, which has received this prestigious award twice in the past three years.” Professor Andrews was honoured at the OWWA Annual Conference in Collingwood on May 2 and at the AWWA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. on June 15.
