Professor Michael Stumm (ECE), a self-described “techie,” sat down with Future Magazine to talk about technology, innovation, regulation, traders’ rights and the future of the company he now heads called Oanda. Professor Strumm is a faculty member in The Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering.

The engineer, who earned a doctorate in computer science from the University of Zurich and holds five patents, also goes into great detail about why teaching talented youngsters at U of T is so important. “I like interacting with bright, young minds. It keeps me young and energized, and a large part of my career is catapulting young people into their career path,” he said. “I do that at the University, but I also do that at the company. You hire young people and help them build their careers. That is very gratifying. There are advantages in both directions.”
