Arising from the report of the Task Force on Engineering and Public Policy tabled in May 2008, the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering will introduce a series of courses on Engineering and Public Policy in September 2009.

Engineers have much to contribute to the creation and implementation of public policy and their work in turn is heavily impacted by it. Energy and water use, sustainable design and building materials, health and safety, transportation and urban renewal are but a few of the areas in which effective public policy can do much to improve the quality of life and create a just and prosperous society.

In collaboration with the School of Public Policy and Governance, we have identified a series of courses that will provide students with both a foundational knowledge of the field of public policy and the opportunity to pursue specific aspects of the discipline that include transportation, environmental decision making technology, global energy systems, infrastructure economics, and strategic policy implementation. Students will receive a certificate to acknowledge successful completion of these four EPP courses as part of the MEng program. Further information is available from the Vice-Dean, Graduate Studies Chris Damaren.
