On Level 5 of the Myhal Centre for Engineering Innovation & Entrepreneurship, printed and digital photos — rare, intimate and moving — showcase redefining moments from the last decade at U of T Engineering.
The exhibit Ambition, Innovation & Excellence: A Decade at Skule™ is part of the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, the largest annual photography event in the world. The nearly 100 photos were curated by Raymond Cheah and Roberta Baker of the Faculty’s Engineering Strategic Communications office, and the exhibit will run from May 4–June 1, 2019, open to the public from 10am – 7pm daily.
U of T Engineering invites the public to explore the selection of photos captured by students, faculty, staff, alumni and Toronto photographers. These stunning images depicting the Faculty’s vibrant community are just a selection of those curated for the exhibit:

In 2010, an ornithopter called Snowbird made aviation history by achieving the age-old dream of sustained, human-powered, bird-like flight. The vehicle was conceived and built by Aerovelo Inc., an aerospace design team founded by alumni Todd Reichert and Cameron Robertson. Weighing less than 43 kilograms, with a wingspan equivalent to that of a Boeing 737, Snowbird represents an engineering feat that was first conceptualized by Leonardo da Vinci in 1485. Gull Lake is home to Civil and Mineral Practicals (CAMP), a multi-week field education course that challenges undergraduate civil and mineral engineering students to learn the fundamentals of route surveying in an experiential outdoor setting. Located near Minden, Ont., CAMP has welcomed students since 1920. Today’s curriculum takes a multidisciplinary approach, integrating elements relating to geology, hydrology, water treatment, woodlot management and sustainable energy. (Photo: Neil Ta)
Dean Cristina Amon walks with two students along St. George Street. Under her leadership, Canada’s #1-ranked engineering school has become a global hub for multidisciplinary research and education, and her commitment to outreach and diversity has set a new standard for engineering schools worldwide. Amon is the Faculty’s longest serving dean in the last half-century and the first woman to hold the title. (Photo: Roberta Baker)
